‘Nature in the City - Advancing social impact through nature-based solutions’ - the final conference of the CLEVER Cities project took place in Hamburg, Germany on 26-27 September 2023. NICHES alongside other nature-based solutions projects exhibited a poster, showcasing the project’s prime objectives and ambitions.
At the core of the CLEVER Cities project is the promotion of sustainable and socially inclusive cities, highlighting the importance of nature-based solutions (NbS), green spaces and community involvement to address urban challenges. The project’s final conference gathered urban landscape visioners, experts and innovators to celebrate years of dedication to climate change adaptation and urban restoration. The event boosted participation by featuring a set of interactive workshops, presentations, and panels dedicated to the social and environmental impact of NbS.
At the conference, McKenna Davis - NICHES core member - was thrilled to share the new CLEVER Cities Guidance platform. The interactive website helps users to explore insights, tools, indicators and lessons learned about nature-based solutions for sustainable urban regeneration.
'The insights collected on the CLEVER Cities Guidance can support NICHES stakeholders to learn more about how to integrate NbS in policy and planning processes, generate and measure a range of impacts, and foster co-creation and stakeholder empowerment,' said McKenna Davis.
The event also provided a stage for other projects like INTERLACE, proGIreg, EdiCitNet, and URBiNAT to present their outputs. Newer NbS projects, such as NetworkNature+ and NBS EduWORLD were also represented. In addition, posters of NICHES and several other NbS initiatives attracted participants’ attention at the exhibition area.
