NICHES workshop: Transformation of Berlin's Rainwater Management through NbS

On 3 December 2024, the Ecologic Institute in Berlin hosted a workshop titled "Transformation of Urban Stormwater Management through Nature-Based Solutions: Future Paths for Berlin." This event brought together experts from urban development, water management, nature conservation, and governmental agencies to explore innovative approaches to sustainable rainwater management.

The workshop, introduced by Dr. Benjamin Kupilas and the NICHES coordinator, Dr. Ulf Stein of the Ecologic Institute, aimed to address Berlin's challenges in stormwater management and collaboratively develop nature-based solutions (NbS). The agenda included keynote speeches, interactive group sessions, and a concluding discussion.

The workshop fostered innovative ideas to strengthen Berlin's resilience to extreme weather, highlighting international insights and local strategies. These results will inform the ongoing NICHES research project and guide future actions in stormwater management.
