Showcasing NICHES, alongside other NbB projects at NetworkNature Annual Event

23 June 2023

NetworkNature’s annual event gathered the global nature-based solutions (NbS) community for another year, this time to discuss the transformative potential of NbS. It took place on 8 June 2023 in Brussels, Belgium.

The diverse program was full of interviews, presentations, panel debates and interactive sessions, becoming a scene for important policy announcements and demonstration of achievements. For example, Biodiversa+ released the “European Roadmap to 2030 for Research and Innovation on Nature-based solutions“. The Roadmap identifies core action areas for European research and innovation on nature-based solutions that are essential to achieve development and deployment of EU goals for NbS.

Alongside other EU-funded projects and initiatives, NICHES exhibited a poster, illustrating its objectives and achievements. It quickly became a meeting point of NICHES partners and other attendees interested in learning more about how the project contributes to urban stormwater management through NbS.

The project coordinator McKenna Davis and her colleague Sandra Naumann from Ecologic Institute, together with Sara Maestre Andres from ICTA-UAB and Boris Barov from Pensoft Publishers facilitated insightful conversations about the aims and activities in the NICHES cities with the passing observers. NICHES partners had the chance to interact with other projects and meet in person consortium members of CLEVER Cities, INTERLACE, CONEXUS, NetworkNature, as well as representatives of the European Commission and other Biodiversa projects... and more!

The core aim of the NatworkNature’s annual event was to emphasise on the transformative nature of NbS. There were discussions about which transformations are needed in policy, the economic and financial sector, and in science and practice to mainstream NbS.
