Third annual meeting highlights progress and marks the next steps

21 March 2024

NICHES’ third annual meeting took place on 15 and 16 March 2024 in Barcelona, Spain. Hosted by ICTA-UAB, the event brought together over 20 in-person and virtual attendees in a hybrid setting. They represented all six partner organisations and the cities that the project’s research focuses - Barcelona (Spain), Rotterdam (Netherlands), Boston (USA), Berlin (Germany) and Sheffield (UK).

The primary objective of this event was to discuss the achieved outcomes across different work packages during the past year and plan the upcoming activities in the final year of NICHES.

On Friday, 15 March, the project coordinator Ulf Sten officially kicked off the meeting, providing an overview of the forthcoming sessions. He facilitated a joint brainstorming on project ambition for the final year of the project, key results and their impact, setting the ground for the work package leaders to share their work progress. All six work packages had a session of their own, followed by questions & answers with the remaining partners. This day ended with breakout bilateral meetings which underscored the crucial role of collaboration among project members.

On the second day, various presentations and discussions on the work progress continued. Partners had the chance to discuss overarching questions and future steps about the identified gaps, boundaries and policy aspects that can support a transition to improve urban mixed sewage water management. The consortium members wrapped up the day with a thought-provoking session on Publication and Impact Strategy.

Project partners were excited to get together for the last time before the project's final conference in February 2025.
